The relationship between a stylist and their client is indeed a special one. Dr Lew Losoncy, a well known psychologist and motivational speaker, states that a stylist “cosmetically and psychologically alters the self images and destinies of people”.

With that being said, the primary goal of a stylist is to help a customer achieve their outer appearance goals with services and products. When a client walks out of the salon looking good and feeling good, they are better prepared to face the world with confidence, and carry that “feel good” attitude to the others that they contact.

The real magic, in my opinion, occurs when a client and stylist have had many “therapy sessions” together. The physical closeness of the service, and the dialog shared between the two brings them closer, and the connection begins. The relationship strengthens past performing a service, and transcends to genuine care, comfort, and mutual respect for one another. The stylist learns hair texture, growth patterns, a client’s lifestyle, and other aspects of their personal and professional life. A good stylist will consistently educate themselves and remain fresh on current trends, and the techniques and tools to achieve them and share what they learn with their client. The client becomes very comfortable and relaxed with the professionalism of the stylist and their abilities to perform any service they desire, and therefore feels confident in reinventing themselves, and their “look” again and again.

So the moral of the story is to connect with a great stylist! Make regular appointments for your “therapy sessions”. Change your look and maybe your life! Ask questions, and share your beauty experiences with your stylist so they can truly get to know you! Feel confident in changing your style, and walk away from your salon visit feeling great! And spread the joy to others!!
